More on Concealed Handguns…

After passing new laws making it legal to carry concealed handguns in bars and restaurants and holding a ‘how to get a concealed handgun permit class’ at the State Legislature it would seem by now House Speaker Thom Tillis and company would have passed enough new gun laws to rest for awhile – but not so.

State Representative Mark Hilton has just sent forward another ‘reform’ to allow folks to carry concealed pistols on school grounds and, when someone who doesn’t have a permit carries a concealed gun to school, Rep. Hilton thinks it’s a good idea to charge them with a misdemeanor instead of a felony.

Hilton also introduced a bill to repeal the law requiring sheriffs to deny concealed handgun permits to people with ‘mental infirmities.’ Hilton explains the old law’s no longer needed because the federal instant handgun check law already covers that problem – which sounds fine until you stop to ask yourself if the federal government is a paragon of thoroughness and efficiency?

Given a choice between the local sheriff or the federal government determining who has the mental stability to carry a concealed handgun in your neighborhood – who would you take?
