The Governor just rewarded political advisor, Mac McCorkle (who’s pet line, especially when it comes to the lottery scandal, is ‘I don’t discuss my conversations with the Governor with the press’) with a new appointment.

Governor Easley has named Mr. McCorkle Chairman of the North Carolina Progress Board, the state commission Governor Hunt founded to issue report cards on how well the Governor is doing solving problems like education and roads. It seems Governor Easley and the Progress Board have been feuding for some time because “when Easley’s people became involved they questioned data that they feared might, unfairly, reflect poorly on the Easley administration.” (News and Observer; 9-19-06)

Well, the Governor has solved that political problem. He won’t have to worry about the Board criticizing him “unfairly.” Not with his political consultant serving as Chairman of the Board.
