Karl Rove’s McKinley mania
Just as President Obama sends Mt. McKinley to the dustbin of history, Karl Rove writes a book extolling the virtues of President McKinley.
Rove, who gave us George Bush, now gives us McKinley as the model for the modern Republican President. Rove’s book, The Triumph of William McKinley: Why the Election of 1896 Still Matters, will be published in November.
The National Review says Rove “first discovered McKinley during a class at the University of Texas. He was mesmerized by the story of a Midwestern governor who used his political skills to turn a squabbling and disunited Republican party into a political force that embraced immigrants and grappled with the issues posed by rapid industrialization.”
“Embraced immigrants”? “Grappled with the issues”? Just like today’s GOP!
I have one word for Karl Rove:
Denali.
(A tip of the TAP hat to Daniel Gilligan for the tip.)
