Hope

I have hope – despite what Trump is doing.

I have hope because of what he’s doing – and what he promised to do but isn’t doing.

I have hope because, in politics, the pendulum always swings back.

I’ve seen it all my life.

We had JFK and LBJ, then Nixon, then Carter, then Reagan and Bush, then Clinton, then Bush, then Obama, then Trump, then Biden, then Trump again.

Trump won because people thought he’d fix the economy and bring down costs.

Instead, prices are up, consumer confidence is down and the stock market is shaky.

Instead of helping people make ends meet, he raised tariffs, which raised prices.

He abolished the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, pardoned the January 6 terrorists, dropped charges against the corrupt New York City mayor, fired thousands of people, cut cancer research, gutted the Federal Aviation Administration and wants to take over Canada, Panama, Gaza and Greenland.

Wait until he cuts healthcare, Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security to cut taxes for his billionaire ballroom buddies at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump’s giant ego convinced him he won a massive mandate.

He didn’t. His margin was just 1.5%.

In less than two months, his polls have dropped by more than that.

Democrats need to get focused, fast, on a strong, simple economic message for 2026.

We need to recruit young, aggressive candidates who talk like people talk at Costco, not on campus.

We need candidates who can communicate in today’s social-media world.

We need candidates who understand the anxiety and insecurity people feel.

In 2024, voters didn’t think President Biden and Vice President Harris felt their pain.

That’s why we lost.

Now, Trump is handing us another chance – and new hope.
