Hagan for Governor

A TAPster offers an intriguing strategy for Democrats:
“Kay Hagan should run for governor.
“She should forget the US Senate, where nothing ever happens and there’s little chance to help her fellow North Carolinians, and come home. She can beat Pat McCrory, especially if his leadership continues to be weak or he is closely identified with the legislature’s mean-spirited, narrow-minded agenda.
“Enter Kay Hagan.
“Who is better qualified to stand as a contrast to the current batch of conservative white male knuckleheads who now the run the state? She’s a veteran politico who’s won multiple legislative elections and a statewide race. She could raise millions from around the country. She would certainly veto legislation that harmed poor people, unemployed workers and women, and likely would offer a budget that preserves programs and services that many citizens depend upon.
“Is there a better option for Democrats? Hardly. They have a short list of possibilities but there’s no obvious Chosen One. Their leadership is in disarray, their fundraising is in the toilet and the rest of this decade promises to be bleak for citizens unlucky to be unemployed or needing to end an unwanted pregnancy.
“The Republicans in the legislature gerrymandered their way to control for the rest of this decade and are going too far too fast on many issues, especially those on their social agenda.
“So it’s time for moderates and progressives who disagree with the state’s current political direction to call Senator Hagan and ask her to come to the rescue.”
