Forgiving Errant Tweets
President Reagan threw the Russians into a somersault with two words – Star Wars – but then the Berlin Wall fell and the two words vanished.
Thirty years later when North Korea started testing nuclear missiles I assumed we’d built Star Wars but no one knew about it because it was top secret – but then I learned we can shoot down a short-range missile but a not long-range missile because we don’t have a space based missile defense. When it comes to inter-continental ballistic missiles we’re defenseless.
Finally, the other day at the Pentagon President Trump announced he’s going to build Star Wars so we can ‘eliminate missiles fired at us by a hostile power’ like Russia or Iran.
If Trump does that I’m going to forgive him for his errant tweets.
