Finding a Genius
Happy, naming cabinet members, on his way back to the White House, Trump says he sees phenomenal days ahead.
Oddly, there’s one word you hardly ever hear these days: Covid. People like to forget hard times. But Covid was Trump’s toughest challenge. How’d he do?
When the plague first reared its head he told us it wasn’t a threat, then told us he had it under control, then assured us it would go away – when death rates soared, gripping the sides of the White House podium, he growled he’d known it was a pandemic all along.
Debating Harris, smiling, Trump said he’d done a phenomenal job fighting Covid. Surprisingly, she let that stand. Didn’t argue – even though studies show America had higher death rates (per 100,000 people) during Covid than France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy – even Belgium.
It’s not unusual for a president battling a crisis to find himself in waters over his head, unsure what to do. During World War II, Franklin Roosevelt needed to turn the economy into a war machine making tanks, guns, airplanes – no businessman, not knowing how to do that, he called a friend – who told him the man he needed was William Knudsen, the head of General Motors. Needing a military genius to build an army Roosevelt found George Marshall. Two blessings landed in his lap.
Trump never got a blessing like that but, now, on his way back to the White House he’s found the man he thinks can whip the next plague. His choice: Bobby Kennedy…who believes the CIA murdered his uncle.
