Like ‘em or not, hand it to legislative Republicans: They’re off to a fast start.
A veteran legislative reporter told me yesterday it feels more like the harried end of a session than the beginning.
And the Republicans have set about doing what they promised to do: cut spending, cut rules and regulations, reverse health-care reform and increase support for charter schools and private schools.
Some Democrats act surprised. Hello! What did you expect? After all, elections have consequences.
The Democrats’ challenge now – when they disagree – is to draw the lines of debate and difference. That sets up a choice in the next election.
Governor Perdue gets her chance when he gives her State of the State Monday and her budget a few days later. The challenge: Will she be as focused as the Republicans?
