Like President Biden, I fell this weekend. And I’m only 74.

He tripped on an ill-placed sandbag. I slipped on a slick boardwalk in Manteo.

He fell more gracefully than I did. My feet went out from under me, and I ended up flat on my back. No damage done, except for some soreness and embarrassment. No, I didn’t hit my head, so I can’t use that excuse.

I hopped right back up. Well, I hauled myself back up. Which is something to be proud of at my age. And I finished my usual hour-long morning walk.

Nobody saw me fall, while the world saw Biden.

Republicans, of course, rejoiced when he fell. They’re just mad because he left them flat-footed on the debt-ceiling deal.

And they conveniently forgot Trump steadying himself and mincing down that ramp at West Point in 2020 (pictured).

In fairness, Trump was wearing leather shoes and going down a slippery incline. Being careful then was the only smart thing he did as President, even if he did look like a doddering old doofus.

President Biden and I showed you can’t keep good Democrats down.

Next year, we geezers are going to stand up with state party chair Anderson Clayton’s army of young Democrats and start pulling North Carolina back up on its feet – the same way President Biden has pulled America up off its back.
