Carville is Right: We Will Win

James Carville was the first and loudest Democrat to say President Biden should step aside. I disagreed, but Carville was right and I was wrong.

Now he’s written an op-ed in The New York Times: “Three Reasons I’m Certain Kamala Harris Will Win.”

This time, I agree. He’s right again.

His three reasons:

  • “Mr. Trump is a repeat electoral loser. This time will be no different.
  • “Money matters, and Ms. Harris has it in droves.
  • “It’s just a feeling.”

I’ve got the same feeling: a deep conviction that America is ready to turn the page and leave Trump in the dustbin of history.

Women, especially, are done with him.

The Harris campaign has been masterful. Carville notes, “in just three months Ms. Harris has assembled a unified and electrified coalition. From Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Liz and Dick Cheney, it is the broadest we have seen in modern political history.”

I’m confident in North Carolina because of three people – Roy Cooper, Josh Stein and Anderson Clayton – and their teams.

Governor Cooper has been an extraordinary party leader this year. Stein has run a strategically brilliant and historically well-funded campaign. Clayton has brought much-needed new energy, new money, new focus, new volunteers and new voters.

Another good sign: Republicans are in overdrive over-hyping partisan polls and overreading early-vote returns.

Just as in 2022, they’re manufacturing a “red wave” narrative to encourage MAGA Republicans and discourage Democrats.

This year, again, it’s a red myth.

Carville wrote, “In two weeks, we not only have a chance to elect Kamala Harris as president, but a chance to bring finality to the sordid career of Donald Trump and drive MAGA into a prolonged remission.”

Democrats should go into these final days proud of what we’ve done, confident about where we are and dedicated to ending the Trump Era in America.
