Blue and Etheridge

Here’s an intriguing back story in the Democratic governor’s race: Did Dan Blue and Bob Etheridge cut a deal by which Blue bowed out, Etheridge got in and Blue will endorse him?
That’s the Raleigh chatter. Blue and Etheridge reportedly talked frequently as filing date neared.
It would make sense. They go back a long way. In the 1980s, Etheridge was a key lieutenant of then-Speaker Liston Ramsey, and Blue was a rising leader in the House.
Help from Blue would be a boost for Etheridge. You can see that by looking at Jonathan Kappler’s excellent media-market analysis at the N.C. Free Enterprise Foundation: 30 percent of the Democratic primary vote – and 40 percent of the African-American vote – is in the Triangle media market, where Blue and Etheridge are best known.
