Big Mark and Big Pharma

When it comes to Big Pharma, Lt. Governor Mark Robinson goes from roaring lion to purring pussycat.

The Republican candidate for governor told the New Hanover County GOP, “I don’t intend to do like our current attorney general did and sue the drug company.”

Attorney General Josh Stein, a Democratic candidate for governor, did sue the drug company – a bunch of them. He led a bipartisan group of state attorneys general who sued pharmaceutical companies that made billions of dollars feeding an opioid-addiction crisis that has ruined lives and ravaged communities.

Stein won more than $1 billion in settlements for North Carolina – money that has gone for treatment and recovery services.

Robinson talks big and tough – sometimes. He berated a female legislator. He called LGBTQ people “filth.” He called teenagers who survived a school shooting and now advocate for gun control “spoiled, angry, know it all CHILDREN,” “spoiled little bastards,” and “media prosti-tots.”

But Big Pharma is safe with Big Mark.

How much money are they giving to his campaign? Enough, apparently, for him to put their profits ahead of our health and safety.

It’s one more reason Robinson shouldn’t be governor. As if we needed another one.
