Bev’s Blunder
Bev Perdue’s positive-ad ploy is a blunder that could cost her the nomination.
It sounds good today. But she will regret it. Especially if she ends up giving a concession speech the night of May 6.
A candidate who unilaterally disarms usually loses.
Moore will keep pummeling her with the ads that closed the gap. What will she do then? She says she will defend herself. But that will sound negative. Then she will look like a hypocrite. And Moore will say: I told you she couldn’t be trusted.
If she or anybody in her campaign says anything remotely negative, she will be caught in the trap she set for herself.
Why did Perdue panic? Are her internal polls that bad? Or is she overreacting to bad advice from her family and friends?
Candidates’ families and friends always say: Voters hate negative ads. And, yes, voters say they hate negative ads. But they remember the negative information.
This U-turn may take Perdue straight to defeat.
