Bev Gets a Break

Governor Perdue must be happy. She’s had a hard two years but she’s finally gotten a break. Two of them.
Her stand to extend the ‘temporary’ sales tax increase (in order to lessen spending cuts) has turned out to be popular.
Voters – 60% of them – agree with Perdue and disagree with Republicans.
Then, while Republicans are fighting the Governor for deeper budget cuts, Senator Harry Brown handed Perdue a gift and introduced a beach replenishment – groin building bill. Each groin costs up to $10 million, plus $2 million a year to maintain it. Replenishing a mile of beach costs $1 million. And North Carolina has 310 miles of coastline.
Yessir, I can hear Perdue now, saying: The Republicans are cutting teachers and, at the same time, pushing a bill to replenish beaches in front of the homes of millionaires.
