From a message standpoint, Governor Perdue is stronger now than President Obama.

The New York Times Sunday captured the White House’s dilemma: combat or compromise? The story said:

“As the economy worsens, President Obama and his senior aides are considering whether to adopt a more combative approach on economic issues, seeking to highlight substantive differences with Republicans in Congress and on the campaign trail rather than continuing to pursue elusive compromises, advisers to the president say.”

One odd note: Compromise is being urged by Obama’s political advisers; combat, by his economic advisers. That’s opposite the usual lineup.

Governor Perdue has made up her mind. Or maybe the legislature made it for her. She is aggressively taking on Republicans, both in her vetoes and her rhetoric as she travels around the state.

Both Perdue and Obama have tough fights ahead next year. At least the Governor knows how she’s going to fight.
