Another Quagmire?

Well, the United Nations has voted to go to war with Libya only it doesn’t call it a war it calls it a ‘no-fly zone’ – which is political double talk for filling the skies over Libya with American or French or British fighters blowing up Libyan tanks and artillery and air-defense batteries.
The United States is all for this new war and voted for it. Russia, China, Germany and India didn’t – which means they may have learned more from our experience in Iraq and Afghanistan than we did.
Over at the State Department unnamed ‘diplomats’ are hailing the new war as wonderful and saying it would be atrocious for the United States to sit on the sidelines while a notorious dictator ‘violently crushes a democratic rebellion’ but we’ve heard all that moonshine about fostering democracy before and while there’s no doubt Gadhafi’s a thug where’s the proof the rebels in Libya are champions of liberty and western values?
Which is more likely: Libya turning into a bright shining new democracy or another ten year quagmire?
A decade ago it was easy to swallow the line there was a moral virtue to deposing tyrants but after Iraq and Afghanistan it looks like all that happens in these wars of ‘liberation’ is in the end one set of varmints ends up replacing another.
