Changing Sexes
I read the story on the front page of the newspaper: A four-year-old girl told her parents she wanted to be a boy. Her parents said no. Angry, the child threw fits, hyperventilating. Her mother searched for the words ‘gender identity’ on the internet, talked with therapists, doctors. A year later her family, starting down a new road, gave their daughter a buzz cut and a new name – Mike.
Four years passed. The child turned nine. Her parents started giving her puberty blocking drugs so her breasts wouldn’t grow. The next step, further down the road, was going to be hormone therapy so she could physically begin to change her sex.
Her parents got a surprise: State legislators introduced bills banning puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors. The girl’s father testified in a hearing against the bills, told the newspaper, ‘This notion…that we’re forcing this on our kids or kid…is insane because that’s not what happened. I guarantee you, the kid is leading the charge.’
Her mother added, ‘You want what’s best for your kids, and you want them to be happy. So what’s it going to hurt to let him’ – by him she meant her daughter – ‘be who he wants to be?’
Legislators’ goal was to prevent children making “irreversible decisions” they would regret later.
What road would you take if your four-year-old daughter wanted to be a boy?
In the Old Book the Good Lord created Adam and Eve, two sexes, but many people now believe the road to ‘transgender’ leads to enlightenment. And happiness. Is that true? Or, like the Serpent’s promise to Eve, is it a deception lost souls follow down a road to heartbreak?
