Thrillary

It’s coming. Watch for it. Don’t be surprised.

Sometime before next summer, Hillary Clinton’s coronation procession will stumble. Some Democrat will catch fire, get momentum and give her a scare.

We Democrats are just made that way. We want drama. We always want a new face, a new name, something new, new, new. Most of all, we yearn for a Movement.

The media wants a fight. They don’t like the Clintons, and the Clintons don’t like them.

Bernie Sanders is having a little boomlet now. But he’s too old, too cranky, too crunchy, too, well, Vermont.

Jim Webb, the former Virginia Senator, is too rural, hawkish and angry for a party that is increasingly urban and liberal.

Elizabeth Warren, the left’s heartthrob, isn’t running.

Which leaves Martin O’Malley, who’s young and unknown.

That means he’s perfect for the part.

O’Malley is a wannabe Gary Hart, the new generation challenging the establishment, like Hart in 1984. Or Bill Clinton in 1992.

But the Clinton Empire is far more formidable than Walter Mondale ever was. So they will almost certainly survive, even if it gets to be a struggle.

And Hillary ought to win. She’s by far the best-qualified person in either party to be President.

Still, some drama is inevitable. Democrats demand it. The Clintons radiate it. With them, it’s always a thrill ride.
