First, the School Board’s Administrators got a black eye from the press for buying land without getting appraisals. Then they got one from the County Commissioners for raising their own salaries. Now they’ve gotten one from the U.S. Department of Education. Ten Wake County schools have failed to meet ‘No Child Left Behind’ standards, so parents with children in those schools must be given an opportunity to transfer to better schools (The News and Observer, 7-17-07.)
What do School Board Administrators have to say about their latest black eye? Well, not much. It’s all a technical glitch. No big deal. The Department of Education saying Wake County Schools are underperforming is nothing to really worry about.
