How easy is it to make fun of Dick Cheney shooting a fellow hunter?
Here are just a few of the jokes and one-liners I’ve heard since his hunting mishap:
• The White House says it wants to make up with Hillary Clinton. So they’re inviting her on a hunting trip with the Vice President.
• Now we know why Dick Cheney got five deferments from the Vietnam War.
• Dick Cheney can’t find Osama, but he can nail a 78-year-old lawyer.
• Isn’t the administration carrying its attacks on lawyers too far?

1 Comment » Normally I’m the first to applaude when someone shoots a lawyer, but this is really no laughing matter. The Vice-President screwed up royally on this one. First rule of shooting is, “He who squeezes the trigger is responsible for where the round goes.” Doesn’t matter if the lawyer was out of place or not doing what he was supposed to be doing–if you squeeze the trigger, you own the results. I admire Dick Cheney. He’s been an outstanding Vice-President and a stand-up guy all his life, so I expect him to take full responsibility for this. He should apologize to all hunting and sport-shooting Americans for setting a bad example and accept without complaint whatever censure the legal system may have in store for him. He might also consider a sizable donation to the NRA’s “Eddie Eagle” firearm safety education program.
