What did we learn during the Republican legislature’s “Education Week”? That North Carolina ranks 48th in education spending.

Legislative leaders bragged that this was the first time all school superintendents were invited to tell the legislature their concerns. The superintendents promptly warned against taking more money from the public schools and giving it to private schools. Which the legislature is going to do anyway.

What will the quintessential swing voter – a moderate woman and mother living in the suburbs of North Raleigh – think?

She doesn’t like Governor McCrory raising his Cabinet’s salaries while cutting assistance for people who can’t find jobs. She doesn’t like raising taxes on working people at the bottom while cutting taxes for people at the top. She doesn’t like blocking half a million people from getting Medicaid and health care.

Now she sees the public schools at risk.

Rep. John Blust, R-Guilford, warned his party about hubris Thursday, although he was talking about another bill – the Great Boards and Commissions Power Grab.

Blust said: “I don’t like this idea, 'Well, we have the power, let’s go ahead and do it.’ Just because we have power we need to be judicious with it. I wish we would be more careful with it. The people have the right to yank us in two years and put someone else in."

The question is whether Democrats have the will and the wherewithal to exploit this rush to the right.

Doubt I'll be able to beat our boy swinney here in posting this :-), but let me pick your post apart anyway.

Okay.....first, you are saying that North Carolina is 48th in education spending. So, let's see, republicans have been "in control" in North Carolina for what now...a couple of months? So, who, exactly, should we NC citizens blame for that lack of spending you're talking about? Nice try, Gary.

Second, just how do you know all these things about how our "quintessential swing voters" think? I'll bet most of those "moderate women living in the suburbs of North Raleigh" know what you're saying is just so much B.S. Unless you've got facts and figures and polls numbers and actual evidence that these women think the way you say they do, why do you post such nonsense?

Third, who, exactly, are those "half a million people" that are going to be blocked from getting Medicaid and health care? Give us the demographics on that, will ya?

It's nice progressive rhetoric. Our state's liberals that would read what you've written here will say "you tell it Gary!!!!". But, it's just more of the same from the left trying to scare people into believing republicans are going to take away things from them government should provide and even hurt the very programs that provide good things government provides in our state to those truly in need that not only deserve taxpayer help but are legally qualified to get it.

As you've said, North Carolina sucks on education compared to other states. We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. Our businesses are failing all over the place. Housing forclosures are astronomical in our state. And, that all happened while democrats were governing our state. Now? We have republicans that our voters put in office to correct those problems. Let's not lose sight of those facts.

Let's give the republicans a chance to change these severe problems our state government and state citizens face. Constant bashing and trashing of republicans isn't going to help our citizens in North Carolina. You and I both know that, Gary. It's just politics for you....regardless the repercussions.

Sad, my friend. Very sad.

SEQUESTER IS DAVID KOCH
His pay off for millions spend electing his 50 tea party members to the House.
The House has been a mess since . Boehner has little control over the 50. Koch tells them what he wants. Koch does not care who gets hurt. He will not push for tax revenue to balance the budget.
Only tax cuts for him.

North Carolina does NOT rank 48th in education spending. That is a complete and total lie made up by the NCAE. They do this every year. No one with any sense takes it seriously.

Yeah, Carbine. Wouldn't it be nice for Gary to have presented a link...some legitimate site...that showed NC ranking 48th in Education? The left...democrats....liberals/progressives don't think there is a need to actually prove what they say. At least not so long as they have a majority of our citizens that believe their balogna. And, guess what...they do have a majority of our citizens that believe their B.S.

It's a sad thing. And, it's all for the sake of party politics. Good for country? Truth? Helping our citizens? hahahahaha...that's just rhetoric and spin to these folks. We're in trouble in America. Believe it.
