A TAPster who is no fan of the party conventions offers this:

“Two thoughts as we enter two tedious weeks of convention blather:

“First, the hurricane harassing the Republican National Convention is further proof that Southern small-town wind-blown burgs like Tampa and Charlotte have no business hosting big-time conventions. What self-respecting convention city has to deal with hurricanes AND must import enough hookers, strippers and anarchists to have a real party?

“Second, shouldn't the enormous resources required to fund the conventions be better spent on some grander purpose? Feeding poor people? Caring for sick people? Avoiding $50+ million on security alone? The conventions are anachronistic wastes of time and money.”

Well, from my perspective, I'd rather see the money spent on making sure that the American political process happens rather than spending all the millions and millions of dollars so that Michelle and tons of friends, the Obama girls and all their friends go off on exotic trips.

It's interesting that your TAPster friend says the money could be better spent on feeding people. Um...with record numbers of people collecting food stamps, free school breakfasts and lunches...WIC and just so many other sources of taxpayer-paid food...when will it ever be enough?

If people knew the ease with which it takes to sign up for free food supplements in this country without having any concern on any kind of follow-up on statements given on your "status", it'd make them sick. I personally know people that have very good jobs and have every kind of comfort and "gadget" imaginable that draw hundreds of dollars in food stamp supplements. And, from what others are telling me, these people brag about getting extra money for themselves by selling the food stamp cards each month. Instead of giving more, our government needs to enforce its policies with regard to the entitlements that are being abused by just so many of our citizens...and, of course, non-citizens as well.
