I live and breathe and walk in a middle-aged white male world and (except for Gary) I’ve hardly a friend who can even imagine Obama winning this election – in their bones they just know that can’t happen.

My Republican friends have also been euphoric since the last election and they’ve had little or no bad news since (at least politically) so they’re looking forward to the election this fall with anticipation but the mixture of politics and euphoria can turn into a deadly state of mind – and a tiny black cloud my have just sailed over the horizon.

CNN, Fox News and Reuters all had polls last week showing Obama widening his lead over Mitt Romney (to as much as nine points).

A Romney advisor dismissed the polls saying, “You’ve got to have something to precipitate that kind of sea change” – but how about a hundred million dollars in negative ads? Would that precipitate a sea change?

The Fox News poll showed Romney’s unpopularity rising five points (mostly with Independents) and Obama gaining four points on the ballot (mostly with Independents).

Mitt Romney is going to win and win big in my world but let’s face the music – my world doesn’t have enough oomph (politically) anymore to decide a Presidential election. Instead Obama’s reelection will be decided by a world of Independent voters younger than me, more modern than me, more tolerant than me and (hardest of all to grasp) a world decidedly more female than mine.

The Romney campaign had better get off it's keister and start hitting back. The Obama campaign to date has been the sleaziest piece of garbage in American political history, and it's had some effect. Team Romney can't just wait for the over-the-top nature of Obama's lies to disgust people; he has to get out there and fight back with the truth.

That's a super post, Carter. And, whether we conservative republicans like it or not...it's pretty damn dead on. The ads...as horrific and as much as they lack ANY kind of class and as much as they lack a great deal of truth, are working wonderfully (as it seems) for Obama & Co.

I'm like you....just about EVERYONE I am associated with just don't see Obama with a chance to pull off another 4 years. Now, I associate mostly with people that are like-minded to me, so my data here is kind of skewed, so to speak. But, like it or not, we're all not middle-aged white guys that have done well for ourselves. A lot of people are now on the government dole...young people...minorities, mostly. And, ALL of them are going to vote for Obama because his campaign has been successful in making people believe that republicans are going to take away government entitlements...or significantly reduce them. And, as for taxes, what's the figure??? 47% of the people in our country working don't pay any federal income taxes? I think that's right. Well, those people are scared to death that the republicans are going to start making them actually pay federal income taxes...thanks to our democratic friends. No, regardless what we middle-aged, fairly well-off white dudes think or see...Obama is gonna be one tough nut to crack this time around...just like he was in 2008. I hope our party and our leadership and the Romney team is up to the challenge.
