Like Charlie Brown, Governor Perdue and Democratic legislators took three mighty swings at the Republicans’ best pitches. And whiffed on every one.
It was an inglorious end to the party’s first legislative session out of power. And maybe a taste of how things will be for a while.
Some Democrats thought Governor Perdue took a courageous stand by vetoing the budget, fracking and a weakened Racial Justice Act. Nevertheless, she got run over. Never had she looked more like a lame duck.
Democratic legislators made the mess worse with a combination of voting mistakes, internal divisions and deal-making with the other side.
Now Democrats can lick their wounds. And ponder how they become relevant again.
