A Minor Miracle

Well, this is a tub-thumping political shocker. I’ve been saying it would take a minor miracle for Kay Hagen to beat Elizabeth Dole and, low and behold, one may have happened – though I’m not believing it. Yet.

A new poll shows Hagen leading Dole 48% to 47%. Normally, I’d just ignore that as another too cheap and too over publicized poll except this time it’s taken by a pollster who’s on Fox News just about every night and Fox News helped pay for it – so even if it’s a cheap poll, it’s a cheap Republican poll.

It seems, pollster Scott Resmussen says, Republicans are ‘a dying label.’ They’re vanishing. So, Hagen gets the Democrats and Dole gets the Republicans, plus leading by nine points among Independents – but still loses.

I’m still not believing it but, nonetheless, it’s troubling. It’s another sign the typhoon that hit Republicans in 2006 may be followed by an even bigger a tidal wave in 2008.
